In 1969, after a 3-year tour as an Army helicopter pilot with a year in Viet Nam, Walter landed a job with Brown & Sharpe Mfg Co as an electrical engineer. While working with a product that utilized a PDP-8 mini computer, he quickly became fascinated with its programming. He has been programming ever since.
After nearly 13 years with Brown & Sharpe, Walter left Brown & Sharpe and was hired by a company in West Hartford, CT where he started his consulting career.
About a year after the formation of Phaneuf Computer Systems, Inc. (PCS), the company was afforded the opportunity to work with Gregg’s Restaurant to start programming a new type of order entry system using a touch screen. Gregg’s soon formed Restaurant Data Concepts to market the product they named POSiTouch and to this day Walter is still heavily involved as its senior programmer.
PCS provides several custom services to keep your small business computers running smoothly and efficiently. The "out-of-the-box" services are OK to a point. Oftentimes, the custom services of a consultant are required. These services are both efficient and cost effective.
Programming
There are times when the off-the-shelf computer program just won't do. When you buy a program, frequently you must change the way you do business in order to fully utilize the new program. PCS can create custom software to precisely match the way you do business. PCS works with Microsoft Access Database applications.
Consulting
"Consulting" covers a lot of stuff. PCS provides a wide range of generic services such as installation of software, from a single program to "Revirginization", i.e., re-installing the operating system and all software, and hardware failure diagnosis.
Networking
PCS can install and maintain your network starting with small office wiring to the installation and maintenance of a complete server based network. PCS specializes in Microsoft Windows 2003 Server.
Web design
PCS can help you design, implement, and maintain your internet presence.
Freelance Photography
With the recent purchase of a professional Nikon Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera, PCS is available to take and present your photographic needs. Walter has adopted the business name "Photos by Phaneuf".
